Yobitsugi Park, situated in Minami-ku, Nagoya, is just a 10-minute stroll from Sakura Station on the Meitetsu Main Line, making it an easily accessible hidden local gem. Equipped with memories and accompanied by a group of little explorers, I chose to revisit this playground after a remarkable 30-year hiatus!

Nostalgic slide, cultural charm, and laid-back vibes

Yobitsugi Park is like a comforting green hug, featuring a baseball field, pleasant walking paths, and, thanks to modern times, some basketball hoops. There’s also a pond, though the once-fancy fountain seems to be on an extended vacation. Nevertheless, the park remains a laid-back spot where people of all ages hang out, even if the fountain decided to take an unscheduled leave.

In Yobitsugi Park’s play area, immerse yourself in the allure of the iconic ‘Mt. Fuji Slide‘ – distinguished by its rare, captivating pink hue. This local legend, born in Nagoya and reminiscent of the good ol’ days, stands as a true symbol of the city and can be found in many parks

Tobu Shrine, a sole national treasure in Nagoya’s shrine architecture, neighbors Yobitsugi Park, with a rich history spanning nearly 400 years. As you pass through this ancient shrine, strolling the elevated paths around the park, the distant hum of trains becomes a symphony. Whether fueled by childhood memories or an innate pull, my feet guide me along the paths of yesteryear, retracing the steps of my youth. Navigating a car-inaccessible tunnel feels like a magical link to my hometown. It’s a blend of sentimentality, nostalgia, and pure joy.

The public telephone booths are still in place, unchanged at all.

Bringing my mini-adventurers to Yobitsugi Park wraps up the circle of life. Watching them conquer the same slides and hills I did as a kid is a moment that goes beyond words – a mix of nostalgia, joy, and pure fun. In the grand story of time, Yobitsugi Park is like a stage where old memories dance with the present, creating a mix of sweet and funny moments.
