Despite being in Nagoya, why Taiwan Ramen, you ask?
Well, as we’ve mentioned in other Hyperlocal Nagoya article, Misen is run by a Taiwanese owner, and this Taiwan Ramen, born right here in Nagoya, is a local ramen that you won’t find in Taiwan! It’s the epitome of Nagoya’s unique culinary scene!
Tonight, a tipsy Nagoyan, in pursuit of that fiery kick, stumbles into the main store in Imaike – because, where else would you go? There are a few other branches, but the Imaike flagship is where it’s at.
A modest bowl filled with spicy minced meat, crunchy bean sprouts, and fresh chives swimming in a flavorful broth awaits. Tossed with medium-thick straight noodles, it’s a taste sensation! Perfectly addictive!
One of those moments when you’re glad to be a Nagoyan!
Caution: It packs a punch, so tread carefully! When you’re feeling a bit wary of the heat, order the ‘American’ version! American? Essentially, it’s Nagoya’s way of saying ‘less spicy’! If you’re craving more heat, there’s ‘Italian,’ or for the daring souls, go all out with ‘African’ – although by then, it’s anyone’s guess which country’s cuisine you’re dealing with! Well, that’s the quirky charm of Nagoya cusine!
With a pleasantly buzzed warmth, it’s time to navigate the journey home with a bit of a wobble.
