Sicilian's Tomato Boiled Spaghetti in Nagoya.
“Once you taste it, you’ll be hooked! You can’t escape the charm of this spaghetti.

– Nakajima-san, thank you for joining us on Hyperlocal Nagoya once again! Today, we’ll be talking about the famous “Sicilian” restaurant and their boiled spaghetti dish.

Thank you for having me. It ‘s the best spaghetti in Nagoya! Once you try it, you’ll be hooked on the deep and irresistible charm of this hyperlocal Japanese style spaghetti restaurant. It’s a completely different genre from ordinary Italian pasta.

– Please tell us more about its appeal.

Honestly, there’s no other way to describe it other than “delicious!” The strong Nagoya-style seasoning is sure to please men, and you’ll never want to stop eating it. It’s a flavor that you’ll want to savor forever. If Sicilian spaghetti were served as dessert, I’d cheer!

– Your favorite dilemma is choosing between “Pepe,”  garlic and red chili based spaghetti , and “Tome,”  homemade tomato sauce based spaghetti.

I’m always struggling with that decision. Since my favorite spaghetti dish is peperoncino, I tend to naturally lean towards “Pepe.” However, there was a time when I tried “Tome” and couldn’t stop eating it.

Wow, it seems like Nakajima-san is really struggling between choosing “Pepe” or “Tome”.

– It’s highly addictive! What makes each option so appealing?

“Pepe” garlic red chili based is just perfect. You can’t go wrong with the trustworthy and classic taste. On the other hand, “Tome” has a surprising and unique charm that goes above and beyond expectations. I’ve seen many people fall in love with this one-of-a-kind tomato sauce. I wish I could have it stocked in my pantry all the time.

– I see. Both options have their own unique charm, so it’s hard to choose just one.

I envy those who can confidently make a decision. Once you try something else, you’ll get stuck in a spiral and suffer like me.

“Spot-eating” without blending the powdered cheese is Nakajima’s way!

– It’s quite deep!

My former colleague can’t move on from “Natto,” and my wife is stuck on “Basil.” It’s not that they can’t be adventurous, but I feel that each menu item at Sicilian has the power to keep you from trying anything else.

– Is there a way to break free from the cycle?

There’s no answer… By the way, when I was being interviewed today, my former boss happened to be having lunch with his wife at Sicilian. He sent me a memorable text on LINE, saying, “I’m having a hard time deciding, but I ultimately choose Pepe.. ” I think this one phrase says it all.

All the menu items are so delicious that once you decide on one, it’s hard to switch to another.

By the time I finish eating, I’m already thinking about what to order next.

– Everyone seems to be crazy about this hyperlocal food!

Also, after finishing my meal, I feel this desire, regret, and sense of loss that I didn’t lick up all the sauce and oil, or that I should have ordered the double serving, because I’m addicted to Sicilian cuisine.

– Feeling both happiness and loss after finishing your meal is the mark of a truly hyper-local, outstanding restaurant!

Yes, exactly! I always feel so sad when I finish my meal. I keep saying it, but it’s just a taste that I want to keep enjoying, you know?
