A short walk from the nearest Imaike station in Nagoya. Upon arrival, the place exuded a rustic charm, with handwritten menus and signs plastered on the windows, giving it a unique ambiance.

Upon entering, the female staff warmly explained the ‘ins and outs’ of the place.

The system: Purchase five tickets for 1,000 yen and place your order. In other words, each dish costs 200 yen! By the way, ‘Senbero’ is slang for getting tipsy on a thousand yen.

And the condiments, small dishes, and chopsticks placed in two locations inside the restaurant are self-serve. Even clearing your dishes is a DIY affair.

Now, let’s talk about the cost performance – it’s ridiculously good!

At this place, both food and drinks are a flat 200 yen. Honestly, wasn’t expecting much in terms of quality…

But wait! The beer is premium! A jug costs two tickets, i.e., 400 yen. Well, at a regular joint, it would be around 480 yen, so it’s pretty cheap, right? But guess what? It’s a large jug! Can you believe it? It’s unbelievably cheap! Thought it would be canned beer!

And the food – three pieces of kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), and they’re properly delicious, with a generous filling! The dotenabe (a hot pot dish) is also incredibly tasty! And the portions!? Duck!? This much!? Too delicious!

While chatting away, ended up eating quite a bit. Highballs, lemon sour – all 200 yen each.

Amazing. In the end, the three of us had 7-8 drinks each, ate our fill, and our hearts were content. Bought a set of five tickets, five sets in total. So, it cost around 1,500-2,000 yen per person to have so much fun and satisfaction!

The atmosphere is homely,  friendly and perfect for solo drinkers or casual gatherings with friends. This is the real deal when it comes to ‘senbero’!

Conclusion: This is what a true ‘senbero’ looks like in Nagoya!
