In “My Hyperlocal Choice” series, we have our very own Nagoya expert, Sasada-san, talking about his absolute favorite, can’t-get-enough-of-it, everyday-eatable miso ramen at “Hachiryu” in Nagoya. Hachiryu has three locations in Nagoya, but this time Sasada-san visited the Matsubara branch where his love for Hachiryu exploded, especially when paired with a bowl of RICE!
Check out Sasada-san’s “My Hyperlocal Choice – Panda Ramen Edition” here!
Just a nod, and my order is sorted!
– Hey! So we here at Hachiryu!
Yeah, I couldn’t come here due to work, so it’s been about a two-month break. I’m craving Hachiryu so much now.
– As soon as you entered the restaurant, there was this kind of “long time no see!” eye contact with the staff, right? Haha
When I used to do route sales at my previous job, I would come here three to four times a week, so it was normal. Anyway good to be back and I still order the same menu, like, “the usual!”
– Alright, let’s get right into it. Tell me about “the usual.”
For me, it’s definitely Miso Butter!
– They also have Shio (salt-based) and Shoyu (soy sauce-based) ramen here, but you still prefer Miso ramen?
I’ve tried the Shio and Shoyu as well, but Hachiryu is all about the Miso. If I don’t have Miso, I’ll regret it later.
– How about a long-awaited bowl of “Hachiryu” ramen?
It feels like soaring to the heavens! It’s incredibly delicious!!
– Haha. It’s like you would go to another branch just to have it again, right?
Especially the Miso Butter, it’s unbelievably delicious. It’s impossible not to have butter in it! The balance between the richness of the miso, the creaminess of the butter, and the crispiness of the bean sprouts is irresistible. Today, I’ll also order rice with it. Miso Butter ramen with rice is an unbeatable combination!
– Miso Butter ramen with rice is definitely a perfect match! Do you have any unique way of eating it, Sasada-san?
I start by eating half of the rice with the chashu and noodles, mixing it with the miso soup in my mouth. And then, I turn the remaining portion into rice porridge.
– Rice porridge?!
It smoothly goes down, and devouring it at the end is the best!
– You have truly mastered your own pace at Hachiryu!
Of course! Recently, I also come with my family, but we make sure to come during a quieter time, avoiding the lunchtime rush. Otherwise, with kids around, it’s hard to concentrate on eating!
– It does seem like a somewhat challenging atmosphere to bring kids to, with mostly office workers.
That’s true. But if you come on weekends or adjust the timing a bit, they welcome you without any issues! When I first brought my child, I made sure to call ahead.
The more you eat, the tastier it gets!
– Nevertheless, the more you eat, the more the flavor intensifies!
At Hachiryu, the final stage is even more delicious than the beginning! As you near the end, the combination of the emptiness of finishing your meal and the increasing richness creates an addictive experience! After taking a sip of water, you’ll want another sip of soup.
– It’s dangerous. It’s unstoppable!
I really finish every last drop of it! Foreigners might feel a bit hesitant at first, but this is a Miso ramen that I want them to try in Nagoya!
