Yoshikawa-ya is a long-standing takoyaki shop that has been loved by many locals for about 50 years. Customers never seem to stop coming, whether they’re office workers to housewives to the young and hip – it’s clear that Yosikawa-ya is beloved by a diverse range of people! There’s even a “no parking” sign along the road and poles to organize the line properly – a true sign of its popularity! What is Nagoya-style takoyaki!

The umami flavor of the broth is exquisite.

Nagoya-style takoyaki is unique due to its small size, soy sauce seasoning, and use of cabbage. Even Nagoya locals may not be aware of this distinct style of takoyaki. The crispy outer layer and hot, gooey interior of the takoyaki, filled with dashi and flavorful octopus, is complemented by the gentle sweetness of the cabbage and subtle spice of red ginger! If you’re used to Osaka-style takoyaki, Nagoya-style may seem simple, but it’s simple in a delicious way! We won’t compare the two – let’s just appreciate the cultural differences. For locals who grew up with this taste, it’s a nostalgic memory of home. So if you’re in Nagoya, don’t miss out on this hyper-local delight!
